NT: Dummy missile falls on car
An RAAF jet accidently dropped a dummy missile into a Darwin caryard last night while
returning from a night sortie.
The resident panel beater says he heard what sounded like a huge thunderclap as the
missile hit a carin the yard.
Darwin police say the Royal Australian Air Force jet had been taking part in Operation
Pitch Black when it dropped the missile by mistake.
Senior Sergeant RICHARD BRYSON says the missile landed on a four-wheel drive parked
at the panel beater's in the industrial suburb of Berrima.
TONY TRAVERS, from Davo's Rust Repairs in Berrima, was at the yard around 9 pm and
preparing to cook his dinner when the missile crushed his car.
He's told ABC radio he rang the police and the RAAF, and then made his sausage sandwich.
Mr TRAVERS says the TAAF eventually rang back and said they'd lost a missile.
