RANGERS TRY TO 'STICK IT' TO WINGS; SETTLE FOR 4-4 TIE.(Sports)

The Binghamton Rangers earned a 4-4 American Hockey League tie with the Adirondack Red Wings Friday night at the Civic Center, and you might say it was a "sticky" situation.

The Rangers, down 4-3 late in the third period, earned a power-play opportunity when the Wings' Keith Primeau was dispatched to the penalty box with a seldom-called infraction: playing with an illegal stick.

Binghamton coach John Paddock surmised that Primeau's stick had too exaggerated a curve. He asked officials to check Primeau's stick with only 4:13 remaining. Paddock's hunch was correct.
